Perfecting Your MLM Skills

Posted by: | Comments (2)

One of the reasons I have found for why most people do not make it to the top in this business is their desire for instant gratification.

We are sold by someone that Network Marketing is get rich quick.  In reality I would wager that, that way of thinking is why most people join this business.

As humans we are not patient, we want it all now.

And while there is no denying it, Network Marketing is the short cut to an incredible life, it is still not overnight success.

It is a business.

It does take work.

And it takes learning and perfecting the required skill sets.

Just like anything else in life, you cannot expect to be good at this business on day 1.

It is easy to look at people at the top of this business and think to yourself that their road was easy.

Whatever skill set they had to achieve success you possess at this exact moment.

That is wrong thinking and can set yourself up for disappointment and failure.

The people at the top, learned, developed and perfected the required skill sets to be able to finally achieve success…  when you look at them on the stage you are seeing the finished product.

Just like your favorite sport…

The athletes who are the best at it, make it look so easy.

Take my favourite sport of Basketball for instance…

By watching Lebron James or Carmello Anthony dribble, shoot or dunk the ball… you may be fooled into thinking it is “Cake Work”…  easy stuff!

However anyone who has ever taken to the basketball court, ball in hand, sneakers laced up, ready to go… realizes the sport is challenging and these guys have obviously been practicing for a very long time to have developed the ability to play at the level they play at.

The same holds true for anything in life…  Microsoft was obviously not built in a day…  nothing is.

This makes sense right?

Then why do people think differently about our business?

Why if they do not have success in their first month or two, do they quit?

Why do they treat this business in a half hearted manner, not taking the time to learn, practice and get good at the required skills?

Again…

This is not a hard business….

The skill sets anyone can learn….

Anyone can become successful in this business if they put the time in…

Learn The Skills…

Skill #1:  Prospecting.

In my opinion the most important skill to develop.  Learn how to get good at prospecting and recruiting people into your business.

There are many methods you can use to prospect.

Obviously you want to start with your Warm Market, but after that when it comes to getting good at Cold Market recruiting, find a leader who has “PROVEN” success recruiting, learn how they did it and simply do the same!

Skill #2: Team Building.

Prospecting alone will not get you to the top of this business.  You must be able to teach your team how grow.

You cannot recruit your way to the top of this business.  If your team does not grow your business will not grow.

Your success in this business is created by showing a large group of people how to do a few key activities on a regular bases.

It’s called duplication.  The magic of this business.

That’s it gang… 2 easy easy skills to develop!

Will it take you some time?  Sure it will.  But so does anything worthwhile!

In the end it is simply a decision on your part to do so!

Get Above The Clouds

Posted by: | Comments (4)

Hey Gang, wondering why you have not heard from me recently?

Well I just back from a great 2 week trip to Texas.  Unlike some when I go away I disconnect and enjoy myself.  But now I am back and in the game once again!  :)

Had an interesting flight back, to get back to where I live in Atlantic Canada, it takes 2 flights, before we took off on the 2nd flight the captain came over the intercom and told us the flight was going to be bumpy until he could get us to an altitude above the turbulence.

And man was he correct!!

The first 10 – 20 minutes we were bouncing around quite a bit, at this point we were under the cloud bank, it was dark and overcast out, however there was a layer of clouds above us that I figured once we got through the ride would smooth out…

…we then entered into that layer of  clouds and it continued to be bumpy, we passed through this layer of clouds only to see there was still another above us, it was still dark out and yes there were still lots of turbulence, so we then flew into the layer of clouds above us…

And guess what happened when we passed through this next layer of clouds?

Like magic, everything cleared…  the turbulence went away…  the sky was blue… It was beautiful…  the sun was shining brightly and the ride instantly became smooth and enjoyable!

(Do you see where I am going with this yet?!?)

Being a Network Marketer to the core, this flight immediately reminded me of the journey of anyone who has made it in Network Marketing.

1) First you have to get on the plane.  (Join a company).

2) Second you actually have to start your engines and start moving down the run way and get into the air. (Take action, make some prospecting calls.)

3) Once you take flight, i.e. enrol your first person or two you are now moving in the right direction towards your goal.

4) However just like the above flight I described you are going to experience turbulence.  The flight is NOT going to be easy at this point.  You are going to bounce around and be uncomfortable. (People are going to say no to your opportunity, some may try to discourage you.)

5) This next stage is the one where many fail.  They see the layer of clouds above them.  They figure this is it, if I can just get through that layer of clouds it is easy street from then on out.

However they hit that next layer of clouds only to find out it is just as dark and bumpy on the other side., maybe even more so.  (They had a little team on the go, maybe a big player quit and took half the organization with him, maybe they are not getting the duplication they wanted, their business has stopped growing, may even be shrinking, possibly they have run out of people in their warm market to speak with, etc  etc)

This is the point where people start to get discouraged.  They thought all they had to do was get through that layer of clouds and all their dreams would come true.  They get there and realize they have not made it yet.  They lose hope.  They get discouraged, frustrated and quit.

The sad part is they were so close, one more layer of clouds and they made it.

One last hard push and they were over the rough parts, and it would have been smooth sailing (flying) from then on out!

Nobody who knows anything about Network Marketing should ever tell you it is going to be an easy smooth ride.

Network Marketing takes, effort and work.  There are going to be ups and downs in your journey.  It will take you 2- 5 years of continuous effort.

But if you can create the discipline to keep on keeping on regardless of the results, you will make it.  You will create an incredible lifestyle for yourself.  One that simply CAN NOT be duplicated in any other business, job, or career.  Period!

Great to be back….  see you tomorrow!

Truth About Warm & Cold Market MLM

Posted by: | Comments (0)

There is no doubt about it that the industry of Network Marketing has changed over the years due to the availability of information on the Internet.

If you want information on any subject you can easily find it.

This has been a good thing for the Network Marketing industry but also a bad thing.

People in our business have gotten lost in information overload.  Many have been “dupped” by the “Marketer” who tells you that you can use a “Push Button System” to recruit your way to the top.

And of course human nature always wants the “path of least resistance”, (the easy way!),  so people buy these systems and get lost, because the truth about the attraction marketing systems is they take years to get good at and as such if you manage to hang in that long without making any money, and you then attempt to teach that to your downline, not even 99.99% of them will stick around long enough to make it work for you.

Your business will not duplicate and it will not grow.

By the way I am not just picking on Attraction marketing, the same can be said for getting good at calling cold leads, focusing on direct mail, running ads in newspapers, etc!

Do not get me wrong, the Internet and many other incredible recruiting strategies have their place in our industry…

But they will NEVER take the place of the warm market!

(and if you are sitting there saying to yourself Robb is wrong, I feel bad for you, because you have a seriously long road ahead of you, trust me I have been there done that and lost lots and lots of money learning this lesson!!

HERE`s WHY:

Because ANYONE who try`s to build a MLM business without incorporating the Warm Market into the CULTURE of their business has NEVER and will NEVER create a solid organization that duplicates and grows.

And keep in mind the whole point of this industry is to have a large organization of people doing a few little activities over and over again that produce results!  (I.e. grows and grows and grows!)

The Fact is…  the only real recruiting method that is truly duplicatable for the masses is the Warm Market.

And the reason is it is the only method that is truly easy…

It is the only method that can create instant results for someone who comes into the business…  (once someone makes money they will stick around)

It is the only method that every single person can do…

And it truly does work…  7 years ago I created a Six Figure income from warm market recruiting alone!!

A Part Time Business:

Keep in mind this is a part time business.  The majority of the people you recruit will be working a day job.

- They may ONLY  be able to put 5 – 10 hours a week into their new homebased business.

- They do not have the time to become master Internet marketers.

- They do not have the time to learn fancy sales scripts and become a telemarketer by calling phone leads..

- They do not have the time to learn how to write sales copy to become direct mail marketers.

- They do not have the money to run newspaper ads day in and day out.

- They do not have the money to run PPC ads on the internet

- etc..etc .etc!

BUT…

They can spend an hour or two a night, calling up people who already know like and trust them.

People who will do them a favor by looking at their opportunity…

People who will join them because they want to work with them

This is why the Warm Market is not only important for your success, but CRUCIAL!!

Because it works and will produce significant results for anyone who does it correctly…

BUT ROBB!?!?

I can already hear it some people reading this saying:

“But Robb…  what happens when I run out of my warm market?!?”

A very very valid question in my opinion…

The answer is to:
Build The Right Culture

What you need to have happen is when someone comes into your business, they focus on their warm market FIRST!

After and ONLY after they have exhausted the warm market, should you introduce them to other recruiting methods.

I consider this a Phase #1 and Phase #2 plan.

Phase #1 (Warm Market)

Phase #2 (Your choice of other marketing methods).

COLD MARKET

There is most definitely a place for cold marketing in our industry.

It is after the warm market is exhausted.

BUT make sure the only cold market activities you promote to your team are activities YOU have used and are using that you KNOW produce results!

Do NOT turn your team into guinea pigs, trying out new activities…

Do not just go on the word of a “Marketer” who is trying to sell you his latest course.

You try them out and IF they work then consider introducing them to your team!

The Best Way To Talk To MLM Leads.

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Learning what approach to take with mlm leads, is an important topic to get into.  How you come across and what you say to a prospect can make a significant impact on your closing rate.

However there is not one blanket solution for all MLM leads, because there are many different type of leads or people you could be dealing with when recruiting.

So let’s look at them individually:
(note this training does not include follow up, this is the intro conversation)

1) Warm market leads.  The best approach with your warm market leads is to simply ask them to do you a favour.  Your warm market should obviously be people you know and as such hopefully they like you and will be inclined to do you a favor.

Ex:  “Hey (So&So) I just became involved with an exciting opportunity and would appreciate it if you would do me a favor and watch this video (DVD, cd, etc)?”

or the short and sweet approach…  “Hey watch this for me, I will call you back tomorrow to discuss it”.

2) Local Market.  As the old sesame street song goes…  “These are the people that you meet when your walking down the street, their the people that you meet each day!! ” LOL  (sorry could not resists!)

However you get the point, these people could be people you meet at networking events, could be your barber, your waitress, parents at your kids sporting events, etc.

With them I always use the following:

Ex: “(So&So)  I am just curious and really just throwing this out there, do you keep your income options open?”

That is it…  if they say yes then, I dig for more, I don’t jump all over them with my opportunity or a sales pitch, I ask them “Why?”.  Why would you be open to an opportunity?  Just curious.  (this allows you to find their why AND it shows you are not desperate to jump all over them trying to sign them up.

When they give you their answer, say that’s great (or even just “ok”), and ask them for their contact info and tell them you will be in touch with some info they may find interesting.  Then in a day or two get them the information.  EASY Strategy and no pressure!!

3 & 4) Purchased Leads Or Internet Generated Leads through attraction marketing.

With these leads you are the boss!  You are Bill Gates interviewing them for a position.  Have posture, they contacted you wanting information, you are not here to sell to them or play any games, either they want your information or your gone!

Now do not be Rude, but you are in charge.

Ex:  Hi (So & So) this is Robb Corbett getting back to you, you requested information on working with me in my network marketing business, what has you looking for a new opportunity?”

Then simply have a list of questions you deem important to ask them:

Some examples:  – What is your experience with this industry

-what methods are you or have you used for recruiting

- why do you want to build a mlm business

- what is your work background

- etc etc.

Remember this is your business, you are looking for the right people, so interview them and find out if they are the right fit.

That’s it for today gang, there are other types of mlm leads but these seem to be the big 4!

Get good at recruiting into your downline, it is a learned skill that anyone can learn and it pays oh so well!!

It is interesting in life how there are defining moments that happen to each of us.  Moments in life when things happen or someone says something that not only sticks out in your mind but ends up becoming a part of you.

Years ago in my university days, I had a friend who was an excellent athlete, not necessarily one of those people who are born with all the skills to be great, but one of those people who through an incredible commitment to the sport and training, went on to become great because of that commitment.

I can remember this person telling me the secret to her success was that “On the days that she did not feel like working out, those were the days that it was the most important that she made sure to work out and follow her routine”.

That has become one of my commitments to myself in my MLM business.

The days I do not feel like picking up the phone and prospecting are the days I make sure I pick up the phone and prospect.

Sure we all have bad days…

However the truly successful people in Network Marketing become like a machine when it comes to prospecting, it makes no difference what kind of day they had they push through and follow their plan.

You see once you allow a little excuse to get you off your plan even for one day, then it is much to easy to let it happen again and again and again… and before long your plan is toast!

I have a sign on my wall in front of me that reads: “Successful People Do What Unsuccessful People Won’t!

Successful people will work their plan day in and day out UNTIL they make it to their goal!

MLM is not an easy business, because there is no such thing as an easy business.

There is no such thing as getting something for nothing.

However this is also not a hard business.

The activities we do are not hard.  But they take you getting outside of your comfort zone for awhile.

2-3 years is all it will take.

And once you are outside of that comfort zone you will actually find that there was nothing to fear there at all!

If you are not having the success in your Network Marketing business you desire ask yourself…  how many people am I talking to about my business daily?

If the answer is not at least 5…  well then pick up the pace!

This is simply a numbers game and there are people EVERYWHERE!

Remember do the deal daily even if you do not feel like it and before long you will be able to do, be, have and become ANYTHING you want!
