In my opinion the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people comes down to Personal Development.
The successful person has a Personal Development plan and sticks to it where the unsuccessful person either does not know what personal development is, or simply disregards it as garbage and thinks it is a waste of time.
How Personal Development Changed My Life
For me my life changed forever when I understood the importance of a personal development plan.
I can still remember the day it all changed for me… I was working as a sale rep for a large chemical company, and was flying home from a training session…
I ended up stuck in the Toronto airport for 13 hours because of a snow storm… as I was in the airport gift shop I came across the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.
I bought it and read the whole thing in the 13 hours at the airport and during the flight home… (I now try to read it once a year)
No question it changed my life… within the year I was self employed, owned my own business and started another one that did even better within the following year…
And it was all because Think and Grow Rich opened my eyes to the importance of reading books like that and having a personal development plan.

So What Is A Personal Development Plan and How Do You Create One?
So what is personal development?
Wikipedia defines personal development in the following way:
“Personal development includes activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.”
In my opinion the most important part of that definition is ” develops talents and potential… and contributes to the realization of dreams and aspirations”.
The Most Important Step To Creating A Personal Development Plan
You have to know what your dreams and aspirations are before you can create a plan to get you there….
Figure out exactly what it is you are looking to accomplish!
Are you looking to make more money, start a business, become physically fit, etc etc!
Once you know what you are trying to accomplish you can develop a personal development plan tailored to getting you there.
The Nitty Gritty of Creating a Personal Development Plan
Once you know where you are going… you need to find the materials that are going to show you how to get there and keep you on track until you arrive at your destination (achieve your goals).
The best way to explain how to do this is to explain to you what my Personal Development Plan looks like…
My Personal Development Plan
My goal at the present is to build a highly successful blog based on teaching people how to become a success and live a motivated and inspired life.
So to do this I spend time studying blogging and internet marketing, as well as personal development topics, success and motivation topics.
I wake up in the morning and I listen, read or watch subjects on motivation and success…
Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, Les Brown, Jim Rohn, Success Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, as well as Blogs like this one…
I spend 30 minutes doing this every morning… this fires me up, motivates me and keeps me on track.
I recommend REGARDLESS of what you want to accomplish that you spend time listening to motivating material…. everyone needs to be motivated to stay focused.
If my goal was to become a Baker… I would still wake up and spend 30 minutes doing the EXACT SAME THING that I am now…
Then during the day while I am travelling in my car I do not listen to music and the radio…
I take that time to LEARN…
It has been said that Listening to the MP3’s and/or CD’s while driving in your car is very efficient and can provide the equivalent of a University degree over three years.
I listen to CD’s that will teach me how to be better at what I am trying to accomplish… Training Cd’s… I also put in motivational Cd’s!
This has done incredible things for me.
When I am in the gym working out daily… I have my MP3 in my ears again listening to either motivational material or training material.
Then at night I spend 30 minutes studying my craft… Studying how to become better at my trade of internet marketing and blogging.
And guess what I have playing in the background on my sound system??
Yup… motivational an inspirational material… constant stimulation!
And lastly before I go to bed at night I read 10-15 minutes of a good inspirational/motivational/success book while laying in bed.
This way my subconscious mind dwells on good material while I am sleeping!
And the most important component of my personal development plan is… ACTION!
I get into action moving towards my goals…
A Personal Development Plan is great… but it will not get you to where you want to go without Action!!
So To Recap…
So again here are the steps to creating your own personal development plan
Step #1 => Decide. Make a decision on what you want to accomplish.
Step #2 => Spend 30 minutes every morning reading (listening or watching) motivational material.
Step # 3=> While driving in your car during the day, listen to audio programs that will train you on how to achieve what you want to achieve.
