1 Quick Strategy for Epic Success

Hey gang… I just watched an awesome video by Robin Sharma, called “The 6 Keys to Epic Success”.

What he explains in this video is seriously powerful stuff… I will post the video at the bottom of this blog post. In the video he Epic Successhighlights 6 keys to success…

The first part of the video where Robin discusses GOALS really hit me…

Because what he explains is an issue and a strategy I had to deal with and implement myself some time ago… and once I was able to deal with this and implement it in my own life everything made sense… and I was able to focus on doing what was required instead of being frustrated with the process…

Instead of being stressed and discouraged with trying to become a success I had peace with the journey… I was no longer angry that I had not yet achieved the levels of success I wanted… I had a calming experience and an understanding that I was now on the right path and that it was just a matter of time before everything came together for me…

Ok… lets get at it…

Strategy for Epic Success – Set Mastery Goals Vs Ego Goals:

Obviously setting goals is crucial to your success. This will not be a detailed post on how to set goals… but if you do not have goals written down yet… write them down today… they are key to your success. But as you will learn in this article you need to have the right type of goals…

Because what most people don’t realize is they have no clue how to come up with the right type of goals… as you will see there are two different types of goals.

And most people are stuck and not moving forward because if they have any goals written down at all… they are the WRONG type of goals.

As Robin Sharma explains there are Mastery goals and Ego goals.

Ego goals are what most people set because they are the goals that bring us social recognition.

They are the goals that if accomplished make our neighbors go WOW look at that guy or gal.

They are the goals that make us look better in other peoples eyes… they are the goals that please the herd.

They are the big and lofty goals… such as:

– I want to be rich…
– I want a fancy new car…
– I want a massive house with an in ground pool…
etc, etc, etc

They are the LOOK at Me Goals!

And while there is nothing wrong with nice things… and it is ok to want these things… these are NOT the type of goals that will allow you to get these things.

Where as Mastery goals are the opposite of these…

Mastery goals are goals that are set to help you become better at what you do or what you want to do.

Mastery goals are becoming better at your craft goals…
Mastery goals are goals that are set to help you become more persistent…
Mastery goals are goals that help you to become more focused…
Mastery goals help you become more disciplined…

Examples:

– my goal is to spend 3 hours a day making my sales calls
– my goal is to spend 30 minutes a day reading personal development material
– my goal is to write 2 blog posts a day
– my goal is to workout 4 days a week

The reason you want to set Mastery Goals is two fold:

The first reason is that by setting these Mastery goals you will end up where you want to go… these are action goals and will take you places.

The second reason to set Mastery Goals is that your goals need to give you power and inspiration… by setting these type of goals and achieving them you are expanding your mind to realize you are capable of achieving… you are empowering yourself… you are building confidence…

…and what happens is as a result you get more energy… you get more determination and you become more inspired to do greater things!

So take some time to watch this video by Robin Sharma…  but when you are finished sit down…  determine what it is you really want to accomplish with your life…  and then write down all the Mastery Goals that will get you there!
